Once upon a time, I had this project for my "Multimedia Marketing" course in college. The challenge: create a company, business plan, marketing strategies, and present to the class as though they were venture capital investors. Since my name was David Bozzi (still is), and I wanted to be a web designer (still do), I came up with "DB Designs", and hence DB Design Boston was born. (btw I got an "A" on the project)
But I never really intended on going into business for myself, it just happened.
My first client was my roommate. She had this rock band "Aura" and wanted to make it big. Time and time again the clubs were asking "Do you have some music on the web I can listen to?" and she thought, "hey, maybe I can hit up Dave!" After some negotiations, we agreed on a price; she'd pay for the utilities that month and buy me dinner, and I would design, develop, and implement her new website. I had already designed a bunch of flyers for her, so I agreed and got to work. Well the end result looked something like this, she loved it, and I thought, "hey, this aint so bad!"
DB Design never really got a chance to take off, however; I got this great job offer at Harvard Medical School 4 months out of college (saving me from awful temp work) as a Technical Specialist for a web-based learning application, which prompted me to put DB Designs to bed (or so I thought). Well it wasn't long before an opportunity presented itself again... and here I am over 2 dozen projects later over the last 4 years, all done as a part-time 'web guy'.
We means "I", and sometimes I call some friends in to help, so 'we' and 'I' have become synonymous in DB Design Land. I do 99% of the work myself, but I have a lot of friends in this world of webs, so when the project seems a bit big, or the timeline is quite short, I make sure the product is delivered as promised. These are some of the things I do:
- Web page design
- Web marketing design (banner ads, etc)
- Full-service Multipart HTML Email marketing
- XHTML 1.1 / CSS web development (W3C Standards)
- LAMP application programming
- Apache Hosting Configuration
- PHP 5
- MySQL / MsSQL
- Basic Flash 8 Design and Programming
- Web and print graphics
- Photo touchup and optimization
- Page Layout
- Macromedia Director 8 Design and Programming (CD-ROMs)
- Digital Video Encoding
- DVD Authoring
In addition to these technical aspects, I have done IT project management, as well as seminars and training on Goverment Standard 508 and W3C web accessibility compliance and development practices.
